National Indigenous Veteran’s Day Ceremony Other Events

National Indigenous Veteran’s Day is observed annually on November 8, and honours and remembers the service, sacrifices, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans, many of whom served with distinction while facing systemic barriers and inequities at home.

This event is being coordinated by Whitby’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, with guidance from Elder Tom Cowie of Hiawatha First Nation, a respected Knowledge Keeper and veteran.

Watercolour Holiday Cards Workshop Other Events

In this watercolor workshop, participants will create vibrant Winter Holiday Cards while learning basic watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and layering. Focusing on two species of Ontario Trees, techniques for painting birch and coniferous trees will be taught.

The workshop encourages creativity and exploration, making it suitable for beginners and experienced painters alike. By the end of the session, participants will leave with 2 gifting ready holiday cards with their artwork on it and new watercolour skills.

All material included in the cost of the workshop.

BIO:
Maryna Salagub is a practicing artist and a popular art teacher. Transparent watercolour is Maryna’s medium of choice. Her watercolours encompass a variety of subject matter, with animalistic detail, being her latest achievement. Maryna’s use of high- keyed colour and dramatic light are the trademarks of her work. Maryna is also a member and juror of Oakville Art Council. Maryna teaches how to illustrate whimsical scenes, full of bright vivid colours and movement. Attend a ceremony on November 11 at 11 a.m. There are three locations to choose from:

  • Whitby Cenotaph located at 109 Dundas Street East in Downtown Whitby, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112 (Whitby Legion)
  • Brooklin Cenotaph at the Brooklin Community Centre and Library, located at 8 Vipond Road, Whitby, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 152 (Brooklin Legion)
