West Lynde residents, are you walking home from school or work or out for a stroll? Celebrate Walktober with the Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP) Team by walking, cycling, or using any active transit to visit our booth at Jeffery Street Park. Enjoy some FREE cider, tea, and treats, and chat with us about active transit and the West Lynde neighbourhood. Please dress for the weather and feel free to bring your pets. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Thursday, October 23, 2025, 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Central Park.
What is Walktober? Walktober is a global initiative encouraging walking, biking, and active transportation, especially for school children, throughout the month of October. It is part of International Walk to School Month (IWALK) that promotes healthy habits and environmental awareness.
What is SNAP? The Town of Whitby, the Region of Durham and the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority have partnered to deliver Whitby's first Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP) in West Lynde. Over the next few years, the SNAP will introduce a series of sustainability-related improvements in the neighbourhood, like planting more trees, creating rain gardens to reduce localized flooding, and making homes more energy-efficient. We are excited to partner with residents and other stakeholders to create an action-oriented plan and a better-connected and climate-ready West Lynde neighbourhood.
