Event Details:

Participate in Waste Reduction Day organized by the Town in partnership with the Whitby Public Library on Saturday, October 21^st, 2023, at the Whitby Public Library, Central Library (405 Dundas St W, Whitby) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The following programs will allow you to divert waste from going to landfills:

1. The Library’s Waste-Themed Family Storytime and Craft:

Time & Venue - Storytime: 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. First Floor Fireplace Area

Time & Venue - Craft time: 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children’s Program Room

Listen to family-friendly waste reduction stories that encourage children to learn about the importance of reducing waste, reusing items, and recycling materials. Using these new skills, children are welcome to take part in a reuse craft to repurpose waste materials and prevent them from going to landfills.

2. Repair Café:

Time & Venue - Repair Cafe: 10:00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m., Meeting Room 1

Have a broken or damaged item? Pop by the Repair Cafe to learn how to fix them with the help of local experts. Advance registration is required.

3. Waste Diversion Drop-off:

Time & Venue - Waste Diversion Drop-off: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Front Lobby

Recycle “hard-to-recyclable” items and help reduce your impact on our planet. Bring your old Brita filters, printer ink cartridges, disposal razors, and pens, markers and highlighters and drop them off at the designated boxes kept in the Library’s Front lobby. No registration is required.

4. Community Swap:

Time & Venue – Community Swap: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Meeting Room 2

Contribute to the circular economy and connect with your community. Join us in swapping items you no longer use and replace it with something new-to-you. This is a free community event, and everyone is invited to bring clean, reusable, portable items such as clothing, housewares, games, books, & toys that you no longer need, and take home something new-to-you! No registration is required.

Items not accepted: Please do NOT bring large furniture, large items, tube televisions, expired or open food, unsealed personal care products, medicine, dirty or ripped clothing, fabric scraps, incomplete toys and games, non-working electronics, magazines, sharp objects, or items that have expired safety requirements.
